Of course my Dads office was different. He was the boss so he got to enjoy the perks of having his own office. No boring modular office furniture in there! It seemed so big and impressive. I remember a big leather studded chair and tall wall shelves full of important looking books and figurines. Plenty of tables and chairs, and even a couch. There were always stacks of file folders and papers on his desk that made me feel like I was in a very important place. We used to hide under his desk, or behind the large plants by the window. We could imagine that we were almost anyone in that place. But usually it was enough to know that Dad would protect us from anything as dreary as ordinary work tasks. I admit, it was a charmed youth! But, oh how the times have changed!
The materials you need in making dollhouse furniture depend on the type of furniture that you want to make. For example, toothpicks can be used as chair legs whereas stir sticks are better for bedposts. In general, though, you will need to have glue, craft knives, miniature drills, fine sandpaper, and paint on hand. Always allow glue to set before you add another piece to whatever furniture you are making. You need to form strong bonds in order to keep the furniture from falling apart easily.
Take a trip to your local hardwood store where trained professionals are there to help you to choose the right product for your refinishing project. You want to ditch the caustic chemicals and select a natural product for your safety. If you dont mind working with chemicals, you must use these with care. Do not smoke while using these chemicals. Chemical strippers can be dangerous when inhaled, so wear a mask and gloves. If you are sanding inside the home, be sure to seal all air ducts and electrical outlets.
